Facebook Makes $1.86 Billion in 2010

According to recently released figures from eMarketer, Facebook‘s revenue for advertising alone — which excludes revenue for virtual currencies and other sources — came to an astonishing $1.86 billion for all of last year. Not bad for a web startup that’s yet to see its seventh birthday.
As we reported last month, Facebook was on track to reach the $2 billion mark for revenue in 2010. When other revenue streams are counted along with ad revenue, it’s easy to imagine that the $2 billion revenue was achieved and possibly exceeded in the past year.
During 2010 Facebooks advertising revenue increased 86% over the company’s estimated 2009 advertising revenue of $740 million worldwide, with $1.21 billion being earned within the US, according to estimates from eMarketer.
Facebook’s self-service ad platform is seeing a lot of business as of late. The popular social networking site has seen a worldwide advertising revenue increase of 86% versus the previous year’s results, courtesy of the $1.86 billion in revenue in took in. Of that, $1.21 billion was earned within the United States, adds the analyst.
The main takeaway of the results, though, is where the majority of the money is coming from. According to eMarketer, 60 percent –or $1.12 billion– stems from small- or medium-sized business that are more than likely using self-serve tools to advertise on the social website. That’s compared to the $740 million that’s being produced by major marketers, like Coke, Match.com, and P&G. According to Debra Williamson, the principal analyst at eMarketer, these small- and medium-sized businesses are taking advantage of Facebook’s rapid growth (which now has over 650 million users), and using the strategies they used to promote themselves on Google to do the same thing on Facebook.

“American Idol” Premiere Ratings Show a Drop!!
The season premiere of the pivotal tenth season of Fox’s American Idol fell in the ratings compared to last year.
Idol drew 26.1 million viewers, down 13%. Among the key adult demo, the show earned a 9.7 preliminary adults 18-49 rating, down 18% from 2010′s opener. The largest declines were among younger viewers, with teen viewership down 28%.
The 18-49 drop represents the lowest-rated premiere for Idol since its 2002 summer debut, and the biggest drop ever for the show between seasons. Runner up goes to 2009, when the show fell 15% (when the national ratings come in shortly, Idol numbers may climb and narrow this gap).
Either way, the figures are below Fox’s panic line. Falling is fine, goes the mantra from Fox insiders, as long as it’s not too big of a plunge — say, more than 20%.
The biggest test will come on Idol‘s new night, Thursday, when the reality series will face steeper competition and audiences should give the network a greater sense of whether they’re digging the new judges panel.

A story has surfaced that PopPrincess Britney Spears had been beaten by her boyfriend Jason Trawick, a high powered agent. Spears disclosed the physical abuse to her former husband, Jason Alexander, during a candid phone conversation. She married Alexander in Las Vegas in 2004 for 55 hours before it was annulled.RadarOnline.com also obtained the audiotape, on which you can hear Alexander ask Spears if Trawick proposed to her on the beach. She replies, “Before or after he beat on me?”
In the audio, Britney describe sthat he had proposed to her but she declinedand that they were currently not together. She also stated that her father wants her to stay away from him.
“Britney is in an abusive relationship,” Alexander told Star. He has remained friends with the singer since their ill-fated marriage. “She told me her life had turned into a nightmare.”
Britney is still under a court-ordered conservatorship.
Representatives for Britney and Trawick deny the story.

Prince William Gets Engaged to Kate Middleton!
The Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince William to Miss Catherine Middleton,” the statement from Clarence House early Tuesday read.
Prince William, 28, asked Middleton, also 28, to marry him while the two were on vacation in Kenya last month, the statement said.
The happy couple appeared for the first time after the announcement today arm-in-arm before a barrage of camera flashes, Middleton wearing the famous engagement ring worn by William’s mother, the late Princess Diana.
“Well as you may recognize now, it’s my mother’s engagement ring and it’s very special to me, as Kate is very special to me now as well. It was only right the two were put together,” William said. “It was my way of making sure mother didn’t miss out on today and the excitement and the fact that we’re going to spend the rest of our lives together.”
Diana received the ring from Prince Charles after the two were engaged in 1981. At the time, the sapphire ring, which is surrounded by 14 diamonds, cost 30,000 pounds.
The royal engagement has also boosted business for Daniella Issa Helayel, who designed the dress that Middleton wore to the announcement. The cameo has triggered a blip in demand (the dress is totally sold out in London) that would likely be dwarfed by the coming surge if Issa is, as rumored, chosen to design Middleton’s wedding gown.
Another business benefiting from Middleton’s news is her parents’ party-paraphernalia company, Party Pieces. The number of visitors to the company’s Web site shot up immediately, according to Alexa, a company that offers traffic data. It’s tough to picture Party Pieces’ wedding offerings—“paper party boats,” “wedding cake party bubbles,” a “giant dress up cracker”—going over well with the royal family, but Middleton, who has said she will continue working for the company until closer to the big day, may want to raid the warehouse to get an early feel for being a princess.
The country of Kenya is also cashing in on the union. The tourism bureau expects a ten per cent increase in visitors thanks to anglophiles who want to experience for themselves the spot where the engagement was sealed and the continent that William has called “my second home.”

Tony further denied report that he’s the one who went to court first. “I did not file for divorce in Texas and did not hire divorce attorneys in either Texas or California,” the 28-year-old star says. “We plan to continue to keep our discussions of this matter private.” Tony, however, didn’t address rumor about his fling with Erin Barry, the wife of his teammate Brent Barry, in the statement.
Facebook Set to Launch “Gmail Killer”
Since February, there have been whisperings about Facebook’s Project Titan, otherwise known as the “Gmail Killer,” and now it’s officially being released…on Monday!
Project Titan will be Facebook’s “full-fledged webmail client,” which the company has internally been referring to as the Gmail Killer!
There hasn’t been TOO much information released about Project Titan yet, but we’d imagine it will utilize Facebook’s vast knowledge of its users to personalize your email service.
Taking on Google is one serious undertaking, but if anybody could pull it off, it’d be Facebook!

Facebook Set to Launch “Gmail Killer”Demi Lovato Breakdown Details
Demi Lovato’s Disney hit “Sonny with a Chance” is slated to continue production next season without the troubled star. Network representatives told Variety that the show will focus the inner-workings of the sketch comedy program Lovato’s character, Sonny, appears on, “So Random!”
“This allows her the time she needs to get well, without distraction or pressure,” a Disney Channel spokesperson said. “Again, we extend our ongoing support to Demi and her family as she works to overcome personal issues.”
Lovato recently quit her tour with the Jonas Brothers to deal with “emotional and physical issues.” The teen starlet has been reportedly grappling with depression and cutting, and entered a treatment center to try to resolve her issues.
